Over the last 50 years I have used many products to color gun metal. For me this is the easiest cold blue I've used. With the creme when you knock over the bottle you won't lose all your blue. Yes, you will knock over the bottle you forgot to put the lid back on as you use it.
You can use acetone to degrease and apply the blue using #0000 steel wool. This gets rid of light surface imperfections and does a dandy job. You might prefer cotton cloth but both have their uses. Using a hair dryer to warm the metal can improve the process on some metals.
This stuff works, is easy to use and is very economical in the creme version.
