Econoblast "E" - Aluminum Oxide (Blast Cabinet Abrasive)

EconoblastTM is an excellent media for use in blast rooms or blast cabinets, where the grit is contained for re-use (up to 30 or more re-uses). Synthetic (man-made) Aluminum Oxide is a silica free inert compound, with a tough crystalline structure, and a uniform hardness of 9 on the MOHS scale (Diamond is 10). These properties combined with uniform particle sizing provide high-speed production with excellent visibility (very low dusting), and lower air requirements (60 to 80 psi recommended). Unlike most other blast media, which are natural or by-products, synthetic AO has uniform properties without random natural weaknesses, making it the most widely used abrasive in the world. When using aluminum oxide for blasting, it is strongly recommended to use tungsten or boron carbide nozzle.

Econoblast "E" - Aluminum Oxide (Blast Cabinet Abrasive)

EconoblastTM Aluminum Oxide (recycled) -- Blend of precisely graded, high purity white, pink, ruby, and sintered aluminum oxide grains, which are normally much too expensive to be used for pressure blasting. EconoblastTM is one of the fastest cutting abrasives, and is highly recyclable, reducing time, cost, and waste! Econoblast is uniformly sized for repeatable finishes and high visibility. EconoblastTM is an Eco-Friendly synthetic aluminum oxide abrasive grain, produced by recycling vitrified bonded grinding wheels, otherwise destined for landfills. This abrasive has a proven 80+ year history as a seamless substitute, for many applications using virgin aluminum oxide.

** Do not copy.

** Values are for abrasive with density of sand @ 100 lbs. per cubic foot.

** Values vary with temperature and metering valve setting.

·           On average: 1 Horse Power (HP) compressor pump delivers about 4 CFM @ 100 psi.

·        As nozzle bore increases, air pressure decreases exponentially (see write ups below).

·        Blast hose ID from blast pot to nozzle should be at least 3 times larger than nozzle bore.

·        Plumbing from compressor to blast pot should be at least 4 times the ID of nozzle bore, and        as short as possible.

·        To check nozzle bore size, remove from holder and insert drill bits until you cannot see any          light around bit.

·        Nozzle entry throat must be same as blast hose ID to prevent excessive turbulence, and            media waste.

For every pound of Econoblast sold - two pounds of "Red Mud" Sludge are prevented from being generated!

For Your Information (FYI)

White, pink, ruby, and ceramic aluminum oxides, known as specialty aluminum oxide abrasives, are produced via the "Bayer Process". This process, also used to make aluminum metal, requires the use of caustic soda (lye), and generates a dangerous sludge byproduct called "Red Mud". For every ton of high purity alumina produced, 2 or more tons of red mud are generated. The US EPA estimates over three billion tons of red mud are being stored around the world. In October 2010 one of the storage sites collapsed, releasing a 3-to-7-foot wave of this toxic waste. Ten people died, many had severe chemical burns, and the ecological effects continue to this day. (Our recycling process does not require use of any chemicals, and only requires a fraction of the energy.)

Uses
  • Removal of rust, scale, sand, or paint from fabricated components
  • Producing surface profile for an increase of surface area prior to coating (increasing bond strength)
  • Roughening of industrial gas turbine engine component surfaces in preparation for thermal spray coating
  • Removal of burrs or edge profiling machined components
  • Etching, or producing a matte cosmetic surface finish on consumer products
  • Removal of mold flash from plastic components
  • Surface texturing of tooling and molds to alter the appearance of molded or stamped products
