Receiver Drier / Accumulator
Protects the system by trapping water and retaining impurities and particles.
If the Receiver Drier / Accumulator is not replaced, it is highly likely that an underlying A/C issue will damage your new replacement compressor and lead to another failure.
Expansion Valve / Orifice Tube
Controls the amount of refrigerant flow into the evaporator.
Acts as a filter for the evaporator, preventing clogs from any sediment in the system. Will collect shrapnel from previous failed compressor.
O-rings and PAG Oil
Special lubricant that goes inside of a compressor.
There are metal ball bearings moving inside of the compressor, gliding along a metal cylinder. PAG oil prevents metal from grinding on metal which would otherwise lead to compressor failure.
When replacing new parts in the A/C system, you need to replace the seals. These O-rings and gaskets connect all the parts together. Old seals become brittle and may have cracks.
