Peach Moonstone Palm Stone Size: 2.5" x 2.2" x .72" 63mm x 56mm x 18mm Weight: 3.6 oz 102 grams Location: Madagascar 2.5" Peach Moonstone polished palm stone from Madagascar.  Moonstone is a feldspar mineral. Its name is derived from a visual effect, or sheen, caused by light reflecting internally in the moonstone from layer inclusions of different feldspars.  Moonstone is composed of two feldspar species, orthoclase and albite.  The two species are intermingled.  Then, as the newly formed mineral cools, the intergrowth of orthoclase and albite separates into stacked, alternating layers.  When light falls between these thin, flat layers, it scatters in many directions producing the phenomenon called adularescence.  The sheen is brightly visible in broad areas across both sides of the piece when turned at an angle in the light.  The palm stone is hand polished for a smooth finish around the stone.
